Q&A With Author Nick Green - Boathouse To Botswana

August 5, 2014

Nick Green grew up with in a family of writers. He has worked in publishing both in London at Harper Collins and in Oxford for Oxford University Press. He moved to Namibia in 2006 and worked for Wilderness Safaris. In 2008 he moved to Botswana and has been based in Maun working primarily in the bush.

Nick is the founder of Black Crake Books and takes delight in mentoring upcoming writers. Something to note if you are looking for a mentor.

We had the pleasure of asking him a few questions.

1. First and foremost, could you give us a short introduction as to who Nick Green is?

Nick Green (aka Henry Green) is an author and publisher originally from Oxford who has been living in Africa since 2006 – in Namibia and Botswana.

2. What inspired you to become a writer?

I am from a family of writers and hence was always surrounded by books and the people who write them.

3. Tell us a bit about your new book.... what is it about?

Boathouse to Botswana is a travel book about moving to Africa and a humorous catering memoir about restaurants and safari lodges.

4. Is it part of a series? Are you planning any more books?

It’s not part of a series but there are other books Three Journeys to Patagonia a travel book about South America, Warriors (a long poem and short stories) and an experimental novel called Yellow Dress.

5. Who do you think will enjoy reading the book?

Boathouse to Botswana will appeal to anyone who loves Oxford, Africa, safari, or just eating out. It’s a very honest behind-the-scenes look at the restaurant and luxury safari lodge industry.

6. Which authors, dead or alive, inspire your writing?

Henry Miller, Jack Kerouac, Paulo Coelho, Annie Proulx and many others.

7. Is there anything you feel you have learnt while writing that other authors may find useful?

When the little voice inside your head starts to speak, grab a pen – don’t wait to write it down later.

8. Name your 3 favourite books and why?

The Great Gatsby (proves you don’t need 80000 words). Einstein’s Dreams – changed the way I think. Kitchen Confidential – changed my life.

9. When is your book available to purchase and from where?

The new, illustrated edition of Boathouse to Botswana – endorsed by Peter Allison, best-selling author of Whatever you do, don’t run – is available from Amazon’s Kindle Store and all other major online retailers. Alternatively go to www.blackcrakebooks.com or ask your bookshop to order a copy for you.

Nick is of course available for interview through our PR representatives at Publishing Push
