MY LORD AND I - JANE ORAGUI

June 7, 2018

A true-life story of the author’s walk
with the Lord Jesus

The author’s belief in her calling by the Lord from birth orchestrated the path of events of her life.  She has had heavenly visions that have acted as a guide in life towards her calling and the ministry.  In one such vision, the Lord told her that, “Everything that you will go through is for you to teach others.”  Pointing to the angels on his right and left he continued, “Go with the angels and they will show you what to do.”

The Lord has led Jane to be a missionary in Egypt, Greece, Italy and Kenya.  She has gone through life and phases and made many sacrifices, but is proud to share her experiences.

Previously I had a feeling of regret and pain, but as the Lord taught me the values of his heart and of eternity, I am now always thankful for all he has taught me and is still teaching me.” – Jane Oragui

About the Author

Jane Oragui was born in the Northern part of Nigeria in Maiduguri, Borno State, and discovered her passion for writing and painting when she was just 12 years old.

In 1996, six years after she had given her life to Christ, she wrote her first book for her father, who looked at it and told her to keep it.  Feeling discouraged that he did not encourage her more, after a few days she asked him why he had said that.  His response came as a shock as he made reference to one of the books he had introduced to her as a child – ‘The Power of Positive Thinking’.  He told her that “This book is a hit and everyone learns from the writings of a man with experience acquired over time.  You have just given your life to Christ and will learn many things as you grow, so be patient.  You will eventually read this book and you will be thankful that you did not publish it.”

Jane began writing My Lord and I in 2006 while in Cairo and continued to write about the events happening around her until she returned home to Nigeria in 2014 when she completed the draft.  She gave this version to her father to read while he was dying of cancer in 2015 and, after managing to read only the first chapter, he said “This is it.”

The story is very inspiring and I love books that takes you on a personal journey of self-discovery and enlightenment. My Lord and I is one of them. You get to understand Jane's close relationship with God and how God has been ever present. I highly recommend!!” - Tolulope

Excerpt

One evening, as soon as I lay down to sleep on the floor in the living room, I saw that the whole place had changed.  There were now no chairs and the place was empty, with no member of my family present, nor any of the furniture.

In the middle of the room was a man, standing.  He was wearing a long, white robe.  He was shining and he had brown-gold hair.  His eyes were full of love, and he looked humble.  There was a yellow light that emitted from him.  This light was more than the usual; it shined brighter.  He was the light that illuminated the place.

There was a wooden table in front of him with a very big book on it.  The book was opened, and I could see that some things were written in the book, but I could not see the words because I was not standing close enough.

Suddenly, there were some people whose faces I did not recognize.  They were standing in a straight line.  I was among those in the line.  A girl was standing in front of e – a girl who looked like one of the girls in my class.

The people walked up to him and he would say something to each of them before they walked away.  I did not pay attention to what he said to them until it was the turn of the girl in front of me.  He looked into the book, called her name, and said, “Ester, go to Heaven.”

I was shocked that I had come to the end of the road so soon in my life.  I looked around again to be sure that I was in my house.  It looked like it, but it was empty, and the light was brighter than usual, and my mother, whom I always looked up to as a protector over us, was not there.  Then I knew that the place that determined where men go after this life had come for me.

I became afraid, because I did not know where he would tell me to go, and I was alone.  Ester, the girl, walked to the right.  I guess she went to Heaven, as he instructed.

Then it came to my turn.  He looked at my face and then looked into the book.  I then saw my name written in it boldly: ‘Jane Oragui,’ but it was on the left-hand side of the book.  The handwriting was really neat and beautiful.

He looked at my face and said, “Jane, go to Hell.”

The thought that ran through my heart was, ‘So, this is my end, and I am so young.  I have heard stories of the fires of Hell, so will I end up in Hell?’  I started to cry really hard, and I kept saying, “Please, I don’t want to go to Hell.  Please don’t send me to Hell.”  I cried and cried, thinking of what could have brought me to this place.

I was all alone.  My family was not there, and with that in my mind I cried even more.  I thought it could be because I used to seal money from my mother’s purse and sometimes climb trees and act like a boy, or steal a piece of meat from the soup pot.  Was that the reason why this man in white is sending me to Hell?  I don’t know how long I cried, but I kept crying while this man in white looked at me without taking his eyes off of me.  In my heart, I wondered why.

The look in his eyes was full of love.  He was quiet and did not say a word.

After crying for a long time, he said, while stretching out his hand and waving to me to stop,

“OK, OK.  Do you want to go to Heaven?”

I was surprised.  Maybe he considered my plea not to send me to Hell.  I wiped my eyes and looked at him again.  His eyes were full of love, and I saw his face clearly this time, because I was standing close to him.  I stopped crying.  While wiping my eyes, I nodded my head, indicating that I wanted to go to Heaven.

Carefully picking each word, one after the other, he said gently, “Go and repent, then you can come to Heaven.”  He said it with a smile on his face.

I was wondering why he was this kind to me, but deep in my heart I was wondering what the word “repent” meant.  I did not understand or know the meaning, but I knew that I would not go to Hell that day.  I was determined, since I had been given the chance to leave that place and “repent,” as he said, that I would never go to Hell.

All that I had in my heart was to find out what “repent” meant, in order to get to Heaven.

I wanted to ask what “repent” meant, then I saw myself lying on the floor with my eyes open.  It was a dream.  No, it was me coming from the other side of life back to this one.

The experience lasted from about 10 o’clock the previous night till about 5 o’clock the next morning, but it felt as if it had lasted for five minutes.  It was real; more real than life itself.

I looked around and saw the rest of my family sleeping in their places.  I was grateful that I had a second chance to make things right, to get to Heaven.  I did not know the meaning of the word, but I had to learn how to do it, how to repent.
