Just Finish! - Sean Kachmarski

October 18, 2019

“DON’T THINK YOU CAN; KNOW YOU CAN”

A TRUE STORY

“INTRIGUING, ABSORBING, UNASHAMED.” – An avid cyclist and runner

“COMPELLING, ENTERTAINING, HEART-WARMING.” – A non-runner

SOMETIMES ALL YOU NEED IS SOMEONE TO BELIEVE IN YOU, NO MATTER WHAT.

Just Finish is the must-read for all wannabe runners who need a reminder of what you are capable of. Running as a commonplace of exercise needs no introduction past truism, but this story is one to take with you in your stride, whether you are on the cusp of your own running journey or want to revel in a true journey of challenge, determination and courage, to reach your goal.

How easy is a habitual way of life? Routine is necessary, but not too much routine. We want to be diligent, but also spontaneous. All whilst looking after ourselves. When is too much too much? Trying new things are often easy considerations on paper, or in our minds, but to Sean Kachmarski change came unexpectedly, with tears of joy and groans of agony. He was running to something, and his story will tell you what he found, the good and the bad.

One man’s true story from the futon to the 50k ultra-marathon finish line.

JUST FINISH!

A Canadian living in West Yorkshire in the UK, Sean was 18+ stone, out of shape and living a sedentary existence. Distance wasn’t just a feat in miles, but in cerebral blocks.

What would you do in the immediate aftermath of a health-scare? Sean had to consider his options, and triggered himself into solution-orientated thinking, he thought running could be the panacea to cure him, and so reluctantly, one step at a time, he ventured on a new course.

“ My story is not a fat-to-fit story, it’s a fat-to-fat story; I found out too late in my journey that running miles and miles without considering other factors was not necessarily the best way to lose weight, but the benefits of my running journey transcended what the scales told me every Monday morning.”

This is a story about battling the temptations of procrastination, the powerful forces of indecision, crossing the threshold of the front door, and knocking down the barriers we subconsciously and inadvertently put up for ourselves without addressing them.

Sean tells his awe-inspiring tale of not only running away from his previously unhealthy self, but the confidence and self-love waiting for him at the Just Finish-line. Sean will take you with him through every solitary mile and will ignite within you a want to surpass your own expectations of yourself, maybe do what you never thought possible, wherever you fit on the running spectrum.

“My story is more for the wannabe runner, the runner who is just starting out and the runner who feels more comfortable running 14- to 18-minute miles; the runner who will check the time of the previous year’s race results to see what the slowest time was before they enter; the runner who has to phone the race organiser to see if there is a cut off time in the longer races; or the runner who will walk just out of view of the people at the finish, then turn on the jets for the last 100-metre sprint finish. All things I have done during my running journey.”

Sean’s writing is a refreshing new perspective from a “grassroots runner” on experiences shared by many, but for him, somebody who just wanted to finish the races he entered. The people he met, the emotions he felt, they are all a part of what makes this story so relevantly honest and full of heart.

The Marathon.

When Sean was on the verge of giving up, a random volunteer took notice of him and something beautiful happened. “Truly the most selfless act I have ever experienced by a random stranger.”

What the people have to say:

“Just Finish! is self-deprecating, funny and brutally honest. It’s about mind over matter, dogged determination, bloody mindedness and the kindness of strangers. It is the tale of the extraordinary lengths an ordinary man went to for the love of his family and became a local legend. Lengths achieved only because of the love and support of the family. It shows the human condition in its best light.” ~ Alice Hearne

“As a back of the pack marathoner I can truly appreciate the emotions portrayed and felt the familiar spine tingle of endorphins when he crossed the line. Sean truly makes the marathon his own- a true champion and courageous marathon runner.” ~ Julia Church

About the Author

Sean is 49, husband of 15 years to Wendy and together they have two children, Ross and Tasha. Originally from Canada, he now lives in Skelmenthope, West Yorkshire, England, which he has done for over 16 years.

In 2014, Sean suffered a health scare which catalysed achievements beyond his wildest imaginings. Thanks to the sustained interest of everybody who listened to his story, the recommendation of writing a book was the next inspiring undertaking from author Sean. Mirroring the challenges, he had already faced, both with insurmountable obstacles, the most poignant principle to come from it all is that no experience does not mean failure.

Just Finish would not have come to fruition without the support from those around him, family, friends, colleagues, and strangers, all who ran this race alongside him.

This book is an access-all-areas insight into the boundless strength of a man on a mission, and no matter what kind of runner you are, a non-runner even, you will gain the very same motivation to surprise yourself and push yourself to do more.
