Hiroko Sherwin was born in Nagoya, Japan and was evacuated to the countryside when the city was bombed. She later moved to Princeton, New Jersey where her three daughters were born.

She served as a special correspondent for the Japanese newspaper New York Yomuiri and has written ten books in Japanese and a novel in English. She lives near Bath, England, with her husband.

The book tells you how a totalitarian nation brainwashed their young men and made them fascist robots. They fought an unforgivable war. But luckily readers may find some saving grace and the answer to my second question in the stories in Part II.

Biography of Hiroko Sherwin

Born in Nagoya, Japan in 1936. Hiroko Sherwin is a writer, journalist and artist. She studied at Tokyo Women’s Christian College, graduating in 1959 and did her Postgraduate studies at Harvard University.

Hiroko Sherwin worked as a special correspondent for New York Yomiuri during 1983-1991. She became a teacher working at Princeton Japanese Language School until 1987 when she became a Principal.

"This splendid work deals with a specific period in the history of one nation. Yet, in terms of man's inhumanity to man, the need for atonement and the power of forgiveness, it has a message for fallen humanity which is eternal. For this, Hiroko Sherwin deserves our unswerving gratitude. It is compulsive reading." - Roy Ludlow
