'I Love to Play my Scales', Grades 3-5, is a flute scale technique book. It aims to lay the groundwork for senior scale technique practice utilising; sequences, scales in thirds, chromatics, octaves and extended scales in a grade appropriate manner.
There is a range of rhythms, including quavers, triplets, semiquavers and dotted rhythms with a variety of articulations. It also has a scale duet section which is useful for teacher/student or student/student use.
Youtube- Students can access free lessons on every scale in this book on the 'Flute Fit' Youtube Channel. In each video, Susan plays through each exercise and suggests various rhythmic and articulation changes in order to enhance control and coordination. Play your scales the easy way!

Author Bio
Susan O Leary was born in Cork, Ireland. She studied flute in the Cork School of Music with Evelyn Grant. She has attended master classes with Trevor Wye, Carlo Yans, Wissam Boustany, Susan Milan, and David Nicholson.
She studied Music and Psychology in University College Cork and graduated with a Masters of Arts degree in 2002. She then moved to Limerick to take up a full time flute teaching post.
She has performed as a soloist, chamber and orchestral musician in many concert venues throughout Ireland.
Her students have enjoyed successes competing nationally for orchestra positions and at music competitions including; the National Youth Orchestra of Ireland, Irish Youth Wind Ensemble, Feis Ceoil Dublin, Feis Maithiu Cork and Feile Luimni, Limerick. Most recently, a student of hers won the Philip F. Walsh memorial prize given by the Associated Board for the highest mark at Grade 7 in Ireland (including NI).
