Eyes to the World - Kadeem Graham

January 18, 2019

This Too Shall Pass

In the darkness of sound, there is a light in silence
In the dying of the flower, there is birthing of a seed
In the cold moon, a sleeping sun lies
In the march of winter, there is the quiet rising of spring
In the cards of life, a beautiful heart plays
In the peacetime, the stars of heaven appear
When the nights of war disappear
In the universe, there is a cycle of energy
Moving between lightness and dark
In the darkness of sound, there is a light in silence
This too shall pass
With will, it will

This is a selection of socially conscious poems that reflect upon our world today through a state of optimism and hope but also present the world and its harsh and sometimes unpleasant reality.

There’s a Dream

In the ones fleeing the boats
In the ones running across the desert
In the ones gazing at the lady of liberty
In the ones abandoned by the mother state

There’s a dream

In the ones beaten and downtrodden
In the ones with their empty hands
In the ones in the dust bowl
In the ones who stood on the bridge

There’s a dream

In the ones who lost it all
In the ones who lost the factories
In the ones who strike and rally
In the ones who hope for more
In the ones standing up against the establishment

There’s a dream

In the ones who protest and march
In the ones who rebel and dissent
In the ones who stand on a platform
In the ones who tie themselves to the tree
In the ones who stand up to the marching machines

There’s a dream

There’s a dream in everyone
No matter where we stand
In this life
We all dream of the Promised Land
