Expressions of an Artist: The Whole Shebang - Frances Wassermann-Bildner

October 13, 2017

"I wonder the wonder, freedom of freedoms,
play for you nightly and sing in the rain.
I pray for your ghosts to let you off lightly,
lessen and get rid of your terrible pain."

This book is not a novel, nor a book of short stories.

It is a collection of writings and paintings.

It encompasses the human condition by covering topics such as love, loss, living, fear, political, outsider and belonging.

Each piece of writing is written automatically and quickly. The writing actually writes itself and the author is a vehicle for her work. The paintings are done in the same way. There are no preconceived ideas in either paintings or writings.

Although the work is produced this way, it does touch the subjects that we are all concerned with. This is because the artist/author is a product of the human condition and will therefore hold these subjects in her subconscious.

Some of the work is quite dark, all of it is filled with energy and emotion and an appreciation of life in all its facets.

The book has been collated into these topics by a reader. One can easily dip in and out or read it cover to cover.

A FEW EXTRACTS FROM THE BOOK

He just loves you

He just loves you man, he loves your essence, your non judgements, your non critical voice, the choices you make in terms of priorities, family and other animals!

The wonderful way you have of keeping yourself out and last, nonintrusive but always there with a helping hand, a listening ear, a sympathetic voice.

He loves you because you give a damn about what really matters, the insides of people, their souls and spirits and have such a small ego, so unimpressed by the chitter and chatter and what does it matter of so called “A” listers that awful description of humanity, and vapid conversations heard by status seekers, non-speakers of anything that vaguely resembles the truth. And in your youth so different from his, you saw it all took a fall of disproportion, had to be a ducker and a diver, speedy Gonzalez to get away from the frey.

The blood and guts and fights that were theirs, you witnessed it all, seen such a lot in your life, strife and chore, and ever non critical of madness and mess, a tidy man in jest and haste and never one who comes in late. He loves you as a fellow music lover one who really knows without going into the cover of ego and cleverness a true appreciator of life’s magical moments of beauty and song and a sense of rootedness and belonging to your family and other animals.

He loves you because he’s the most perceptive man I know. Lazar vision, eyes and ears that see it all.

And I think he is able to see you quite clearly.

Champagne Crystals

Champagne crystals, camaraderie, flight, bubbles in the air, bubbles everywhere, aeration, colour, sanguine moments. Spirit alive entering the gates of nirvana. Chrystal, veuve, what’s in a name, the purity, the semblance of a glass of champagne. Jockeys fly, horses neigh, the culmination of another day. Psychics, mediums, bursting through, who’s to say what’s you and you.

Anticipation, bubbles and expectation. I put my hand around your waist and tasted friendship. Not formed in haste. Champagne you asked, is it free, Champagne you queried for you and me?

Bubbles of life, love and laughter floating above the heavier matter. Champagne cocktails, chitter chatter. Corks that pop, love a lot, fizz in the air. Champagne everywhere, in the bath a glass between friends making many amends.

Stillness

Once there was stillness but don’t ask me where.

Not a care in the world where the air was greener, bluer, truer.

Where was that land of Lilliputian fantasy?

A place where revellers didn’t appear with dollar bills and princesses and fairy godmothers were in prolific abundance.

A journey where goblins encountered dragons and kings slayed ogres.

Such a country filled with terrific adventures.

And big Papi’s and small children.

Wind on the years and corporate rates and sullied dates abound in larger pictures.

And the estimated time factor is, and the rule of thumb could be, and have you hit your targets? Are you a good cog in society’s wheel?

Do you feel a distance from your peers and neighbours?

Do you engage in humanities follies or are you living your life increasingly behind a screen.

The dream, the utopian one where people hold hands across the universe and verdant pastures, galloping horses, wind freed in your hair gathers no momentum in static conversation.

Stillness no, barbed yes, a state where every player is hiding behind their own officiousness and high fidelity.

Only fidelity in measured moments.

A constant reminder that everyone in this business of survival is out for themselves.

Stillness, serenity, sanity, you have to search for these in sunnier places.
