"I admire Patricia Polledri for taking on such an entrenched point of view regarding envy so effectively." - Joseph Schwartz

Envy is as old as mankind- crimes are committed because of envy, politics are based on envy, institutions have been designed to regulate envy and there are powerful reasons to avoid being envied by others; for example: under achieving. This book can be seen as the ultimate envy handbook and is a seedbed of information about envy.

It covers the theoretical background to the subject, looks at ways in which envy surfaces in daily life and suggests ways of dealing with envious attacks. And lest anyone should doubt the practical consequences of envy, it provides an in-depth analysis of the trial of Oscar Pistorius for killing his girlfriend of twelve weeks, Reeva Steenkamp.

Biography of Dr Patricia Polledri

Dr Patricia Polledri is a forensic psychotherapist working in London and is the author of many articles and reviews relating to the psychopathology associated with mental disorders. In 2012 she published a forensic psychiatry text book entitled Envy Is Not Innate: A new model of thinking (Karnac Books).

Her new book, Envy In Everyday Life, is intended for the intelligent lay person and is an adaptation of her previous book but written specifically for a much wider audience. It is jargon free and written in plain English and is intended to unpack the bewildering behavior envious individuals express towards others.

"In this imposing and groundbreaking book, Polledri encourages us to look beyond easily acceptable traditional psychoanalytic concepts, such as envy and the psychopathology associated with it. The reader will be challenged with both old and new ways of thinking about the nature of the mother/baby relationship." - Dr Estela Welldon
