“Three fatalities! Talk to me Felix! 17 years of nothing and then three fatalities? How? Talk to me Felix, you’re my Robot man!” Ezekiel Cleaver boomed, his face contorted in a mixture of rage and confusion. The “Robot Man” was Felix Baxter, mechanical and hydraulics whizz kid and Head of Robotics at Computer Cop Corp. The only thing more impressive than Cleaver’s unbelievable mental capacity was his almost preternatural gift of unearthing and surrounding himself with similar freaks of nature. Computer Cop Corp or CCC was one of several companies that reside under the Cleaver Corp umbrella. It was founded 21 years ago by Ezekiel Cleaver along with silent partner and chief benefactor Vincent Gwiazda.

The fatalities that Cleaver spoke of were a result of two separate and very high profile drone malfunctions. Computerized Law Enforcement Drones known commonly as “CLEDS” or “Com Cops” had been patrolling the streets of Central and East London for the past 17 years. The units were originally packaged as Police Support Drones, and introduced as an enhancement to the regular manned force. They now boasted a 40% share of all police activity. So successful were these state of the art pieces of engineering, that national rollout was predicted to take just 5 years. Cleaver dropped back down to his chair, he wasn’t a small man, but today he cut a tiny figure, shrunk behind his huge desk, in the corner of his vast, all white furnished, semi-circular office. Baxter couldn’t recall ever seeing his boss, everybody’s boss like this. He usually filled the room, metaphorically of course; such was the man’s quiet yet steely demeanor. Baxter met Cleaver in Spain at a seminar, longer ago than he cared to remember.  Over the years he had become one of the mogul’s very few “close men”.

“I…I’ve been working on both drones since the start of the week, testing and retesting, trying to determine whether it was a data or a mechanical problem,” mumbled Baxter.

“Problem?” croaked Cleaver, “my god man a guy in his late 20’s…”

“yes, but we…”

“Then a young mother along with her 5 year old daughter in broad bloody day light!”

“Yes but, Ezekiel…”

“DR CLEAVER! Today my name is Dr Cleaver.” hissed the incensed CEO.
