In this well-researched Presentation, the expert author outlines the key issues and best practice solutions of Arterial Infrastructure System (AIS). For instance, linking infrastructure and utilities with an AIS is the safest and recommended method for managing and controlling abnormal weather conditions (ie drought or floods) that might negatively impact services, human resources, historical treasures, wildlife and the environment.

There follows an explanation on the power of merging policies, people and partnerships into a cohesive force for change. Rather than taking a defensive stance, the author points to the benefits of correctly managing AIS to protect the environment and utility services, proposing a more united, proactive and adaptive approach: ‘You cannot build walls as a defence against mother nature, you must also learn to manage what mother nature throws at you.’

In this persuasive and scholarly work, AIS: Arterial Infrastructure System Presentation, the author looks to the future, highlighting that the decisions we make now are more important than ever, as this quote from Sir John Beddington reasons: ‘We have managed to leave so much damage that even if we changed our attitudes NOW, we will take 25 years of positive action to negate the damage done to our environment.’

In a series of constructive and structured chapters, the author puts forward methods, schemes, diagrams and sustainable solutions to combatting environmental damage, coping with adverse weather conditions and limiting loss utilities now and in the future.

One main chapter is the promotion of the reverse osmosis process and desalination using a pressure exchanger: “…due to the issue of rising sea levels, we would utilise sea water using reverse osmosis systems… resulting in a win, win situation as we feed our rivers and improve the environment.”

The book impressively examines the present and historical situation, current developments, potential alternatives and recommendations. There are also long-term goals advocating AIS. Depending on budget constraints, the author suggests implementing either an underground grid system or a trefoil system to effectively “…negate devastating situations being experienced by our rural and urban communities during loss of services.”

AIS: Arterial Infrastructure System Presentation is an invaluable study supporting the optimum management of AIS in relation to protecting our environment, wildlife, human resources and utility services. This Presentation will appeal to anyone interested in environmental science, earth science, climate change, land management, engineering and policy management.
