My Mind is My Prison - Katy M.

October 16, 2019

A TRUE STORY…

“It’s been a long journey to ‘recovery’, but it’s worth every minute and always remember your illness counts, whether it is physical or not.”

“I read this quote once and I am trying to live by it”: ‘There are no mistakes, only lessons.’ I think this is so important, especially in any mental health illness, because you may say or do something that you instantly regret, especially when you’re lost in an illness. The illness consumes you and you can be defensive, snap and be horrible to someone you love in a second, but just remember that’s not you, and the people closest to you will know that.’

Katy M. tells her story through raw unfiltered honesty, in a courageous account of her journey through mental illness with eating disorders and OCD. She is relatable, reassuring and comforting, but also a stark reminder of what is endured by so many behind closed doors. It is a strengthening letter, without judgement, to those who have survived similar ordeals, are currently struggling, or who may know or suspect anyone experiencing difficulties symptomatic of this very real narrative.

The simple reason for this book is the want to help. It is not a ‘how to’ book on recovery, or a set of rules to abide by in order to get better, it is a story, Katy’s story, and in sharing some of her tips and information, Katy wants to reach out to those who suffer the same as her and hopefully bring those people to feel a little less lonely or lost.

Alone and isolated, disorders of this kind pre-empt the feeling that no-one will ever understand. There are times and experiences in everyone’s lives that make us feel our emotions are indecipherable. Katy has invited you into a very private part of her life displayed within these pages and amongst the overwhelming thank you it represents to her own family and friends, the thought of helping anyone within the community is thanks that can create change.

Author bio

Katy started writing articles for various mental health organisations before she brought her focus to a more personal approach and now author of ‘My Mind Is My Prison, she has been able to express herself in her own true story, with the knowledge and experience writing about mental health had already provided her.

Struggling with forms of mental health including Anorexia, Anxiety, Depression and OCD, the years of suffering do take its toll, but Katy steered those difficulties into an outpouring of love and shared information, not only for herself, but to share with the wider communities that may have or are going through similar.

Katy is no writer aiming to make you feel sad, quite the opposite. She has balanced the vulnerabilities of illness with the beauty of laughter, so that readers will appreciate the harsh realities, but know that you don’t have to lose your smile to do so.

Presently Katy is living her life to the fullest. Some of the activities she really enjoys doing are boxing, yoga and baking. These are the very hobbies that have emerged into her grasp since not being to undertake in the past.

Currently engaged to her fiancé, she would even dare to say herself, she is very happy.
